Why We Choose the Bear

It started as a TikTok trend: "Would you rather be stuck in the woods with a man or a bear?" The answer from women was overwhelming, immediate, and to many men, completely baffling. We chose the bear.

This isn't about hating men. It's about a deep, cellular understanding of safety. We know what a bear will do. A bear's "no" is final. A bear doesn't lie. A bear doesn't spend ten years slowly eroding your sense of self. A bear is honest.

The Honesty of the Bear

If you meet a bear in the woods, you know the rules. You make yourself big, you back away slowly, you carry spray. The danger is predictable. If the bear attacks, no one asks what you were wearing. No one asks why you were in the woods in the first place. No one tells you the bear is "actually a nice guy who just had a bad day."

The Exhaustion of the Negotiated Life

For many of us, our previous lives were a constant negotiation. Negotiating for space, for time, for respect, for help with the dishes, for the right to be tired. We were "the Negotiators." And we are exhausted.

Choosing the bear is a metaphor for choosing the wild, honest, and sometimes difficult path of independence over the curated, exhausting, and often dishonest path of "keeping the peace." We are no longer interested in peace that is bought with our own silence.

Building the Den

So we chose the bear. And then we realized we weren't alone in the woods. There were other women who had made the same choice. We started building dens. We started sharing our "That Guy" stories and realizing they were all the same story.

This club is our den. It's a place where you don't have to explain why you chose the bear. Everyone here already knows. We are here to celebrate the choice, to heal from the woods, and to live our lives—single, out loud, and completely on our own terms.
